After nearly four years of construction, the Thuan An Estuary Overpass – the largest coastal transport infrastructure project in Hue City, has entered its final phase and is scheduled for a technical opening on 26 March 2026. According to Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Vice Chairman of the Hue City People’s Committee, the city is currently prioritizing the completion of the approach roads at both ends of the bridge to ensure readiness for the planned opening.
The Overpass is part of the broader coastal roadway project traversing Hue City, spanning nearly 21.8-22 km and is being implemented in phases, with a total investment of over 129.45 million USD. Phase 1 of the project began on 26 March 2022, consisting of the Thuan An Estuary Overpass and more than 5 km of approach roads, with the total investment of 2.4 trillion VND (about 90 million USD) funded by both central and local budgets.
The Thuan An Estuary Overpass itself stretches approximately 2.36 km in length and 20 meters in width, making it the longest sea-crossing bridge in the Central Region of Vietnam to date. It was constructed using modern bridge technology and forms a central component of the coastal road system.
The Thuan An Estuary Overpass is recognized as a key infrastructure project commemorating the 14th National Party Congress. Once operational, itis expected to serve as a major driver for development in the eastern coastal area and the central urban zone of Hue City, open new space for the development of the marine economy, attract investment in tourism and services, and enhance regional connectivity along the Central Vietnam coastal corridor by linking previously separated transport routes.
