Following the recent administrative merger, Tan Phuoc has become a new growth and logistics center of Ho Chi Minh City. Strategically connected with the Cai Mep-Thi Vai Port Cluster and the Can Gio International Transshipment Port, Tan Phuoc is set to become one of Southeast Asia’s most advanced seaport-logistics corridors, enhancing regional competitiveness and establishing HCMC as a key international trade gateway.
Key features of the Tan Phuoc logistics ecosystem:
– Ports: 13 seaports and 16 inland ports, rapidly evolving into a major transshipment center for the city and the Southeastern region. The Cai Mep-Thi Vai Port Cluster, one of Vietnam’s most modern deep-water ports and among the world’s top 20 capable of handling ultra-large container vessels, providing direct links to the U.S., Europe, and Africa, significantly reducing transit time and logistics costs.
– Cai Mep Ha Development: A 22-km corridor between Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) and Cai Mep Ha, integrating manufacturing, warehousing, maritime transport, and a proposed Cai Mep Ha Free Trade Zone (FTZ), which will adopt an integrated port-logistics-industrial-service-airport model, designed to attract investment and strengthen international trade through a next-generation logistics hub. In parallel, the city plans to develop a barge terminal network linking Binh Duong, Dong Nai, and other Southeastern provinces to enhance inland waterway transport to Cai Mep and relieve pressure on the road system.
– Can Gio International Transshipment Port: Designed to handle the world’s largest container ships, operating in synergy with Cai Mep-Thi Vai-Cai Mep Ha, supporting HCMC’s goal of joining the top 10 global container ports.
– Urban Port relocation: Urban cargo ports will be relocated to the Cai Mep-Thi Vai and Can Gio areas, while inner-city river terminals will serve primarily for transshipment, restructuring the city’s economic landscape toward a modern, green, and sustainable logistics ecosystem.
– Transport connectivity: Priority investments in railways, highways, and multimodal networks, including Ring Roads 3 and 4, radial corridors linking Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, and the Mekong Delta, urban rail extensions to Vung Tau, and a container rail line from Bau Bang (Binh Duong) to Cai Mep.
These initiatives position Tan Phuoc as a critical node in HCMC’s ambition to become a regional and global logistics hub.
