On 14 November 2025, representatives of the Royal Schiphol Group, a Dutch airport management corporation, and the aviation consulting firm NACO of the Netherlands met with leaders of the Da Nang People’s Committee to explore investment opportunities in the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in southern Da Nang and at Chu Lai Airport in the former Quang Nam Province. According to Mr. Tran Nam Hung, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone serves as a key growth engine for industrial development, logistics, modern urbanization, and tourism of the city.
The zone is planned to include satellite urban areas, new urban-industrial complexes, an airport-oriented city, coastal urban zones, and eco-tourism areas. Its transport infrastructure is comprehensively connected, meeting development requirements through the North-South railway, the Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway, National Highway 1A, the coastal ring road, and the North-South high-speed railway[1]. The Vice Chairman also outlined the planned commercial district, free-trade zone, public service centers, commercial service hubs, industrial parks, warehousing areas, logistics facilities, and port-related zones.
Regarding the expansion and upgrading of Chu Lai Airport, the approved Master Plan for the Development of Vietnam’s Airport System for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, designates Chu Lai as an international airport of Code 4F, with a projected capacity of 10 million passengers annually by 2030. The plan also envisions establishing an air cargo logistics center, a flight training center, and an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul hub at Chu Lai Airport.
