On 18 November 2025, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) commenced construction of the two final and largest components of the Xuyen Tam Canal improvement project. According to Mr. Dau An Phuc, Head of the HCMC Urban Infrastructure Investment Project Management Board, the project has a total investment of approximately 700 million USD from the city budget and spans nearly 8.9 km.
The project includes dredging the canal, constructing embankments along both sides, installing wastewater collection systems connected to treatment facilities, building roads along the canal, and adding green spaces, parks, and lighting systems.
Once completed, the Xuyen Tam Canal project will enhance drainage capacity, open new transport corridors linking An Nhon Ward, Binh Loi Trung, Binh Thanh, and Gia Dinh, and serve as a strong catalyst for socio-economic development and improved quality of life for local residents.
