In 2025, Vinh Long Province had eight products and product sets recognized as National Typical Rural Industrial Products, the highest number nationwide. The recognized items include: cocoa coconut candy, coconut oil, ground cover netting, dried rice, Anthra charcoal[1], red terracotta ceramic pots, a Macapuno coconut product set (including pandan-flavored, original, and cocoa coconut candy as well as shredded Macapuno coconut meat); and a rice-based product set comprising rice crackers, flat rice noodles, and fresh vermicelli.
National Typical Rural Industrial Products are products selected by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and manufactured by rural industrial establishments. These products demonstrate high quality and practical value, show strong potential for market development, and meet key criteria related to economic efficiency, technical standards, social impact, utilization of local raw materials, job creation, and environmental protection. Recognition as a National Typical Rural Industrial Product serves as a basis for supporting rural industrial establishments in expanding production and promoting trade. This recognition also enhances enterprises competitiveness, fosters the development of high-quality products with regional and national advantages, and contributes to job creation and social welfare at the local level.
According to the Vinh Long Province Department of Industry and Trade (DOIT), during the 2021-2025 period the province implemented 165 industrial promotion schemes with total funding exceeding 1.4 million USD, including 32 schemes financed under the National Industrial Promotion Program. These schemes supported the adoption of advanced machinery and equipment, technology transfer, vocational training, and management capacity building for rural industrial establishments. As a result, labour productivity at many establishments increased by an average of 15-25%, revenues rose by 10-30%, contributing to the growth of the industrial and handicraft sectors and the local economy. In 2025 alone, Vinh Long Province carried out 43 schemes supporting advanced machinery and equipment, 10 schemes for equipment upgrading in the red ceramics sector, along with schemes for product design, showroom development, and environmental treatment, with total support funding exceeding 445,434 USD.
Looking ahead, the provincial DOIT will concentrate on five key priorities to strengthen local enterprises and enhance their competitiveness in domestic and international markets:
(1) promoting technological innovation and digital transformation;
(2) developing brands linked to traceability and geographical indications;
(3) enhancing trade promotion, supply-demand linkage, and interregional connectivity;
(4) developing agricultural value chains aligned with green and circular economy principles; and
(5) improving support policies related to infrastructure, finance, land, and human resources.
The province also plans to foster a more supportive business environment and encourage the development of distinctive local products that leverage regional advantages. These efforts aim to contribute to the goal of transforming Vinh Long into a regional hub for agro-aquatic processing, e-commerce, and modern rural industry in the Mekong Delta by 2030.
BIC Ho Chi Minh City observes that Vinh Long’s recognition as the leading locality in nationally recognized rural industrial products reflects the Mekong Delta’s growing role in value-added agricultural processing and rural industry development. Continued support through industrial promotion programs, technological upgrading, and branding initiatives may further strengthen the province’s agro-processing capacity and integration into domestic and export markets. These developments may create opportunities for Thailand to cooperate and invest in areas such as food processing technology, packaging, supply-chain services, and agricultural value chain development in the Mekong Delta region and in broader Vietnam.
