According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company (HURC), from 22 December 2024 to 15 December 2025, Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien) in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) operated more than 78,000 train services and carried nearly 19 million passengers. Average ridership exceeded 1.5 million passengers per month, approximately 52,000 passengers per day, and reached up to 110,000 passengers per day during public holidays and the Lunar New Year. These figures clearly indicate strong demand for metro services, as a regular mode of transport rather than merely an initial trial experience.
In 2026, the company plans to: (1) invest in upgrading the camera system; (2) install additional elevators and escalators at waiting areas; (3) provide advanced training for engineers and staff in maintenance operations; (4) expand ticketing systems at stations; (5) improve gate opening speeds; and (6) deploy biometric technologies for metro users. Notably, the integrated bus–metro ticketing will be introduced to enhance user convenience.
Metro Line No. 1 has a total length of 19.7 km, comprising 2.6 km underground in the central area and 17.1 km elevated, with a total investment of over 1.6 billion USD financed by ODA loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The line includes 14 stations (3 underground and 11 elevated), and the Long Binh depot, covering 20.56 hectares, which serves train stabling, maintenance, and repair operations.
